Support goals and objectives as established by North America Procurement Management. This position will help develop and execute strategies incorporating the North America Supply Chain requirements and support the Global Sourcing initiatives for all key North America Chemical categories. The position will interface and support cross functional efforts with various internal, regional, and global purchasing team members. The individual will attend and contribute as an active team member on assigned committees and task forces.
The defined spending for the categories this position will lead approximates to $65 Million per annum for North America. Additionally, the position will support the North America Chemical Manager and the Commodity Chemicals as needed. The key categories of direct involvement are defined below:

Specialty Chemicals – Lead Categories
- Color & Dyes
- Fragrances
- Lanolins
- Proteins
- Resins
- Solvents
- Thickeners
- Misc. Chemicals

Commodity Chemicals – Support as Needed
- Alcohol
- Amines
- Betaines
- Fatty Alcohols, Acids, Wax
- Oils and Petrolatum
- Quats
- Silicones
- Surfactants

US Chemicals – Daily Activity Support
- Daily support of US needs.
- ACV Production Facilities
- Contract Manufacturing
- NPD Launch Support.
- Forecasting.
- Budget.
- Materials Mgmt support.

Support the Global Procurement team by creating and executing sourcing strategies for the North America “Specialty” Chemical category which encompass several specialty categories. Additionally the position will provide support on the “Commodity” Chemical Categories as needed. This effort includes the identification of regional suppliers for strategic alliances and the understanding of the key cost drivers of all “Specialty” type items and the supply chain requirements to meet Alberto Culver customer service expectations. Review, analyze and coordinate quotes, via bids or long term negotiations for evaluation and supplier selection. Work on supply agreements/contracts to enhance purchasing synergies for category specific items.
Negotiate pricing and purchasing responsibilities for Chemical materials, including unit price, freight, packaging, and payment terms for regional requirements. These negotiations will lead to sustainable cost improvements in our overall cost of ownership. Seek agreement for implementation globally and issue supply agreements/contracts to enhance purchasing synergies for chemical items.
Team with R&D, Process Engineering, and Marketing groups in sourcing alternative chemicals that optimize formulas and aide in the global optimization of our chemical spend.
Support the quarterly forecast process for the defined chemical categories.
Support all North America NPD introductions, line extensions and promotions to meet required ship dates and volume requirements.

Requirements
Four-year college degree required
Must be a team player with interpersonal skills important for negotiations, supplier contact and interaction with internal groups. Attendance in negotiating, quality, and supplier management seminars a plus.
Exceptional oral and written skills.
Must be able to effectively manage and function throughout the organization.
Proficient in Microsoft applications and SAP or equivalent ERP system.
BA/BS in Chemistry \ Chemical Engineering \ Business Management or Purchasing-related field.
5-8 years experience in purchasing chemical items.
Desired Acceptable Category Knowledge: Broad exposure to various Chemicals utilized in Health and Beauty products required with an emphasis on Fragrances, Lanolins, Mineral Oils, Resins, Silicones, Solvents, and Thickeners are a plus.
Vegetable Fat and Petroleum derived raw materials such as; Amines, Betaines, Ethanol, Fatty Alcohols, Quats, and Surfactants are a plus.
Desired Supplier Knowledge: ADM, Ashland Aqualon, BASF, Chemsil/Shin-Etsu, Clariant, Dow Corning, Elementis, Equistar, Firmenich, Givaudan, Hercules, IFF, ISP, Lipo, MGP, Penreco, and Sonneborn.
Other Supplier Knowledge a plus: 3V, Acme Hardesty, Akzonobel, Ashland Chemicals, Cognis, Croda, Dow Chemical, Evonick-Goldschmidt, Lonza, Lubrizol, McIntyre, Nalco, Pilot, Rhodia, Sasol, Stepan, Univar, and other regional suppliers in the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Argentina.
